Kitsy (the Rev. Katharine Hope) Winthrop is our part-time minister. She is with us once a month for a 4-day "weekend", September through June. Kitsy is a birthright Unitarian (now Unitarian Universalist) who grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts and spent part of every summer on the coast of Maine. At age 38 she experienced a call to UU parish ministry and, following 4 years of theological school in Rochester, New York, has been serving a number of our congregations ever since.
This is her first Canadian ministry (she now lives on the coast of Maine and currently serves a UU Fellowship in Maine, also part-time) and she loves it: Maritime Canada AND the congregation.
During her long weekends with us she provides a Sunday worship experience, meets with the Board and any other committees that request her presence. In addition she "hosts" a "Lunch Bunch" at an area restaurant following the Sunday service and coffee hour, open to all. Saturday evening programs, a Women's Writing Group, workshop presentations and times to meet with members of the congregation for pastoral or other reasons fill Kitsy's "dance card" from morning till night.
Kitsy describes herself as a "free-thinking mystic with hands". Spiritual reflection as well as activism are vital parts of her own religious life. "Hope" is in her name, and "For Joy" is on her license plate. Kitsy says she dwells in possibility as well as the clutter of a busy life. The well-being of the Earth as well as the ongoing transformation of herself and the human world are her top priorities, along with having fun. Her two adult children, who live in California, help her with all this, long distance.

Don Flatt has been a Unitarian Universalist since the late nineties. At the time, he and his partner were looking for a home for spiritual exploration for both themselves and their children. They found Unitarian Universalism. Since then, he's been a member of three different UU congregations and been involved in various congregational committees from Worship, Grounds and the Board of Trustees. In 2002 Don  began training to be a Lay Chaplain and took basic Lay Chaplaincy training in Fredericton. In July 2008, Don stepped up to the position as one of the Lay Chaplains for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saint John. He's pleased to be able to offer rites of passage to members of the community and looks forward to making every marriage and child dedication unique and special. Don also offers his services to celebrate the life of a loved one who has passed on.

Don studied Religion and Psychoanalytic Thought in the Humanities while attending the University of Toronto. He graduated on the Dean's list with High Distinction. He also studied radio broadcasting at Humber College and currently works at CBC Television as the Director of CBC New Brunswick's supper hour newscast. He can be reached by email at donflatt@nb.sympatico.ca
